It's from a book I read as a child. I actually give the answer to this somewhere else on my blog.
Well, I'm quite impressed, Jilla! You are definitely referencing the right superstition, so I'd say that deserves 500 points. There is something more specific, though, which I have mentioned once before on my blog. I'll give you a hint: it was in a survey I did.
